Is Gembot free to use?

Yes, Gembot and Gembroker will always be free for users to access. We will then add so much value that you may pay for our subscriptions or services.

What type of assets are on the Platform?

We have most US equities, ETFs and a select number of cryptocurrency information on the Platform. Gembroker users can trade US equities, ETFs and Cryptocurrencies.

How does Gembot make money?

We make money from subscriptions, services and fees related to our brokerage offering Gembroker. For more information go here.

Who can use Gembroker?

We currently allow individual New Zealand residents who are over the age of 18 to come and invest using our service.

Who is Alpaca?

Alpaca is a US-regulated broker-dealer whom we are partnered with to provide cost-effective brokerage services in New Zealand and shortly Australia.

What sort of protection do investors have?

Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC), which protects member securities customers of up to $500,000 (including $250,000 for claims for cash). The Alpaca Excess Insurance coverage provides protection for any Gembroker customer of up to $30 million in securities and $1 million in cash, and is covered at an aggregate limit of $150 million across all Gembroker and Alpaca Securities accounts. Crypto assets do not fall under the protection of SIPC insurance as it is an unregulated asset.

Where is the crypto I buy using Gembroker held?

At present, Gembroker is partnered with Alpaca who is the business we use as our broker-dealer.

Alpaca Crypto maintains its customers' cryptocurrency in cold storage crypto wallets with Fireblocks LLC ("Fireblocks"). Fireblocks is a licensed money services business with FinCEN. In addition, Fireblocks is SOC 2 Type II certified. Alpaca Crypto is also a licensed money services business with FinCEN and is SOC 2 Type II certified.
